A Young Robin Asks The Gardener For Help And He Knows Exactly What She's After

They call New Jersey the Garden State and, believe it or not, it sometimes does a great job living up to that nickname. In the video we’ve posted below, you’ll see a Green Brook, New Jersey gardener prepare a meal for a new friend using nothing more than a pitchfork!

The American robin is a very familiar sight. Their range stretches all the way from Alaska to central Mexico! Adult robins are famous for their bright red breasts while young robins can be recognized by their distinctive mottled plumage. Although they make good use of their senses of hearing and smell, robins primarily locate their next meal by eyesight. Watch carefully and you’ll see them making their trademark move: hopping a few steps and then looking around for something tasty. Hopping and looking, hopping again and looking some more. A nice, big, tender earthworm is a robin’s idea of a perfect meal.

In the video, we watch as a gardener who’s busy turning up earth with a pitchfork is joined by a young robin looking for lunch. They quickly develop a symbiotic relationship. In fact, it’s hard to tell if the little bird is just getting help looking for worms or if it’s helping encourage the gardener to turn up more soil. At times, it’s almost as if the gardener is in the role of mother robin, showing the youngster how to find a tasty snack. He even drops a worm right into the bird’s eager beak! Our gardener really gets into this new role, saying things like: “Look! Oh, come on, come on, come on! Over here! What a feast!” and teasing with, “What a lazy bum you are!”

At one point, this bold young robin even accepts a ride on the pitchfork!

It’s hard to tell who’s more enthusiastic, the gardener or the well-fed young robin. What are your thoughts on this charming video? Let us know in the comments at Facebook. Don’t forget to like and share: your friends will eat it up, too.
